OpenAI to Acquire Ona for Secure, Persistent Cloud Environments for AI Agents

OpenAI has announced its intention to acquire Ona, a company specializing in secure cloud execution and orchestration technology. This strategic acquisition is aimed at enhancing OpenAI's Codex platform by providing secure, persistent cloud environments for long-running AI agents within enterprise workflows.

The integration of Ona's capabilities will allow AI agents to operate within a customer's own cloud environment, offering greater control over infrastructure, data, and security boundaries. OpenAI will continue to provide the core AI intelligence and orchestration that powers these experiences.

Codex, which is used by over 5 million people weekly for research, analysis, building, and automation, will benefit from Ona's customer-controlled execution model. This will enable agents to perform complex tasks from initial requests to finished results in a more secure and persistent manner.

The acquisition is subject to customary closing conditions, including regulatory approvals. Following the close, the Ona team will join OpenAI and collaborate with the Codex team to scale secure, persistent enterprise execution capabilities globally.
